Flameworking is a great way to experience the thrill of shaping molten glass using a small torch. In this introductory course, you will learn the basics of melting borosilicate glass rods to create a variety of objects such as small sculptures, pendants and simple ornaments. You will use mostly clear glass and some colour. You will also learn about the nature of glass, tools and terminology and glass safety. All materials are included in the cost.

About the Instructor
Janelle Tyler started melting glass in a torch flame over 15 years ago. She began by making lampwork beads, and for the first eight years of her artistic career made one-of-a-kind focal beads and earring-beads set onto hand-smithed sterling silver settings. In 2012, she first tried her hand at borosilicate glass, and fell in love with the sculptural aspect, size, clarity and function to which flame worked glass lends itself. Her current glass practice primarily includes detailed landscape and oceanscape focal beads in soft glass, and vases and pens in borosilicate glass.
