Our members and students have been asking us for a way to practice on their own, under supervision. We listened, and are pleased to introduce Newbie Night!

Every Tuesday night, members and non-member students can work in a supervised environment in the hot shop or at the flameworking table. (“Supervised” means we keep you and others near you safe; there’s no teaching.)

Also, it’s not just for newbies! Experienced members who want to work in a supportive group environment are welcome.

Here’s how it works:

Flameworking and Beadmaking, 6:00-9:00 pm

• Open to members and non-members who have taken a beadmaking or flameworking class of more than three hours, or have taken a private lesson.
• Members pay $9.00 per hour; non-members pay $13.00 per hour (+GST).
• 7 work stations available.
• Drop-in only: First come, first served.

Hot Shop, 6:00-10:00 pm

• Open to members and non-members who have taken a glassblowing class, private lessons or have previous experience (as determined by instructors).
• 2 benches per night.
• Users must work in teams of 2 (or more) people per bench and must find their own partners.
• $175.00 + HST per bench. Must be pre-booked & prepaid here.

You have to complete all three items above to be eligible. Deadline for entries is Tuesday, April 30th, 2013. Winners will be selected at random from eligible contestants and will be announced on Wednesday, May 1st, 2013. Winners must use their casting session during our Mother’s Day “Make A Memory” Weekend Event (May 10-12, 2013). Prize is not transferable to any other event, promotion or class.

Your child’s Handprint or Footprint cast in solid GLASS!

It’s easy and beautiful. Simply press your child’s hand or foot into the sand. Then we pour hot glass into the imprint. Let it cool for a day, and soon your handprint is ready for pick-up!

$35 +tax per cast

Maria Keating had been flame working for over 10 years. She began working with glass at  Andrighetti Glassworks and has given countless demonstrations for Circle Craft Christmas market  and the Pacific Pyros, an organization of glass beadmakers. She has years of experience as an Environmental Educator and looks forward to bringing her knowledge of this craft to new glass enthusiasts!

GLASSBLOWING  / Spring Break Camp for Teens
Would you like to learn how to make small sculptures, cups & vases from molten glass? This class will give you a great introduction to glassblowing! Students will work in teams with our highly experienced, professional instructors to learn age-old techniques and create their own original glass art. Special emphasis on safety. All tools & materials are included and students will keep the work that they make. Age: 15+

Monday, March 18th – Friday, March 22nd, 2013 (5 days)

BEADMAKING / Spring Break Camp for TeensMake your own colourful glass beads using a technique called flameworking. Melting rods of glass in a small torch, you will create dozens of beautiful glass beads. Students will work with our highly experienced, professional instructors with an emphasis on safety and proper use of materials. All tools and materials included, and students will keep the work they make. Age 15+

Shop Technician – Part-time

Terminal City Glass Co-op is a member driven cooperative glass arts studio located in Vancouver, BC. The studio was created in 2012 by a group of like-minded individuals who seek to develop their art and work in a cooperative setting. The studio offers rental facilities and equipment for glassblowing, flameworking, coldworking and sandblasting by individual artists as well as classes for beginner students and experienced artists.

The ideal candidate promotes the cooperative workplace culture and embraces their role in promoting membership and contributing to the growth and success of the TCGC. Flexibility of schedule is essential for success in this position.

We are looking for a team player who enjoys being around other people in a creative environment. The right person is motivated, adaptable, has a positive attitude and is a comprehensive problem solver.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Daily operations of hot shop, cold shop and flame shop including maintenance and repair, regular safety inspections, supply maintenance & general cleanup
• Supports all studio users in safe and proper operation of equipment.
• Utilizes their expertise to support members & students in achieving their creative goals.
• Ensures adherence to policies and reports any areas that could be improved
• Assists with special events and coordinates materials with Program Director

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service approach
• Must be familiar with operation of equipment and tools for hot shop, cold shop, flame shop and sandblasting
• Must be organized, able to multi-task and welcome customer service inquiries
• Glass working skills are a must
• Basic computer skills and internet savvy
• Welding skills a plus

20 Hours per week
Hourly Wage PLUS 8 hours of personal Hot Shop Studio time per week.

Must be eligible to work in Canada, No sponsorship.
